Getting water to where it is needed.
Thanks everyone for your kind words and actions over this past week.
Asheville is not expected to have water back in the pipes for multiple weeks. The road to the main water plant literally does not exist anymore.
Water is a difficult resource to distribute. It is heavy, and many people cannot carry as much of it as they need, or even travel to one of the FEMA and city distribution points to collect it. Bottled water is hard to clean yourself with.
What we need is some very specific water infrastructure support.
We are building mobile water trailers that offer drinking water and showers. I am filling up 275 gallon totes at wells outside the hardest hit zones. The waste water from the showers can flush toilets. We have these powered with solar panels, batteries, transfer pumps and propane instant hot water heaters. We are deploying these locally and to areas in need.
We are also hosting "Dry Toilet" workshops, teaching people how to make at home composting / dry toilets with 5 gallon buckets and sawdust. There isn't enough water to flush.
If you or anyone you know are interested in facilitating a supply chain for these trailers, give us your information below. We need action now.
We are accepting donations:
